hi tried quail once, they are fairly tough and strong, make sure the chick crumbs are small enough and the water is shallow enough so they dont drown and have them in somewhere they cant get out cos once they are gone goodbye, they are so small and even fully grown cant be seen in long grass and very quick. try not to have any corners in where the heat lamp is and if you have some other banty chicks they will be alright with them so long as there is not too big an age difference. they are really comical so have fun and let us know how many hatch

I've successfully raised a couple of broods of quail now and use a large fish tank with mesh top and heat source as a brooder. I use a normal drinker for water but put marbles in the bottom, the quail sip the water from betwen the marbles and can't drown! Feed needs to be crushed to start with. they great lettle chicks like big active bumble bees but they do grow quickly.
Best of luck

Hi Banty, i have been breeding quail (coturnix) now for 10 years these birds are fun fun fun, i have allways fed mine on chick crumbs grounded down more by the use of a electric coffee grinder (the wife didnt mind lol) for water i use those brown pot dishes you can get from pet shops say for hamster food but put marbles or small pebbles in the dish to stop the chicks drowning and just cover marbles/pebbles with water, brooding i first started with strong carboard boxes with the broody lamp inside the box (brinsea cosy lamp chick brooder) with corrogated cardboard in the bottom of the box or sawdust or fine wood shavings and fine wire mesh over the top of the box quails are great escapees. I hope this is of help to you, to get you started and i wish you all the success on your first quail hatch, if you need any more help please feel free to get in touch, all the best
