help desperately needed. One of the ducks we hatched last week seems to be limping. I wasnt aware there was a problem last night so it seems to have happened over night, ive bathed the foot, inspected it but cant find anything wrong, one minute he seems to be walking fine then, next minute he looks like he's limping or walking with difficulty, he's more unsteady on his feet than normal. He was the smallest weakest duck when hatched and has never been too clever on he's feet, though nothing before looked a problem. Can i help him, does he need a trip to the vet...... any advice greatly appreciated. mandy The brooder is lined with non-slip matting used on trays to stop cups and plates slipping so im not sure if he's slipped.

hi little feathers i dont know what is wrong with the duckling as you seem to be doing everything for it. so long as his legs arent splayed out to the side though he should be alright. if he can get to the water and the feed he should be ok. look forward to meeting you tomorrow duckmad

Thanks duckmad, as im new to this and i didnt want him in any pain.... he's now 100% a totally loved pet, plus i couldnt help myself and took him to the vet ........ i no, i no, some of you make think it daft, but i intend to keep him as a pet. The only conclusion the vet could come up with was maybe he has a vitamin deficiency, to give him some vitamin powder in his food and see what happens. He's eating and drinking fine. ;D he doesnt seem in any pain when i inspect the leg. So we will just see what happens. He is just so cute and is more than happy just to sit in my hand and either nod off or watch the telly ...... ;D thanks mandy.

hi mandy splayed legs is when the legs point to 6 and 12 on the clock face, this is not what yours has. i thonk yours is from being so long coming out the egg. it happens with ducks sometimes and you are lucky to get them to survive. he looks like a fighter though so good luck with him duckmad
