Here's my other half halfway through our conversion of a chicken house, converted from a B&Q bike shed. 'Thats not where i asked for the pop hole' ;D ;D Beds are plastic containers from our local store and the rooster rack is a radiator clothes dryer with some slats of wood tied on. She's already picked her bed, even thou we havent finished yet. how do i get out of this place . Thats it finished for now, paul's going to add another level at some 'later' stage, when we get our new additions

Looks great. Can I offer a couple of tips? I would position a proper roost higher. A 1 1/2 inch square bit of wood with the edges sanded going across about 2 feet high off the ground or higher. My silkies go up 3 or 4 feet to roost. with a droppping board underneath.Could you get brother to make a sort of long bench right over the top of the boxes about 2 feet wide, with a perch above thet? That way, the bench would be a dropping tray, the boxes would be darker and they could perch nice and high which is what they need, make the nest boxes dark and enclosed and use shredded paper instead of hay which harbours mites. I would put a thick layer or paper on the floor, then a layer of shavings nice and thick, when you come to clean you simply have to roll the paper up shavings and all and put on the compost heap. You will however need to put feeders and drinkers up off the ground or they will get covered in shavings. I like the idea of that bike shed though. Apart from the colour lol I have a real aversion to the orange sheds, fences etc you see in people's gardens. It seems unnatural to me. Perhaps I'm simply a boring old fart who likes wood to be painted green to blend in. Plus it is a very traditional old colour.

Thanks Onymee for the advice, its always welcome, and no your not a boring old fart. When we moved into the property all the fences/wood work were painted this red so we've just continued the theme. We are still adjusting 'starsky's ' house, and at the time we were waiting on some sawdust, which has now arrived. Paul might put in another level so until he does im not sure what level the perches can go. I didnt no until recently that chickens actually roosted or perched stupid old fart myself . We've also just bought a shredder so looks like we might be having some free bedding. thanks again Onymee, suggestions always welcome. cheers mandy

I keep bantams in the bottom of my parrot aviaries and they often fly right up to roost beside the parrots a good 5 foot off the ground p.s. I got 2 pairs of Polish bantams today ;D ;D ;D not on topic I know but I'm just so pleased that I have to tell everyone p.p.s I met Doris, a member here. She is smashing.
