well they could start lay at any time they are at an age that they could lay , some birds dont lay till later in the spring but our 6 month old pullets are just starting now . we havew a males running with ours from as soon as they are free range witch is when they are fully feathered and strong enough to fend for them self usually about 3 to 4 months

ur hens should lay in about feb-march time, when days will be longer, and it will be getting warmer. should be fine to introduce a male now as well, as they can fend for them selves. glad the lil boys crowing. Fangs

yep, great 2 hear them in the morning. recently they been going 2 all our neighbors gardens and come back just before it goes dark don't no what they been eating cuz all the food i put out for them seems to be eaten by some homing pigeons that live near by. ow by the way i got my first little egg yesterday, a great feelin after looking after them for 6 months'ish but i think it was laid by Tilly (the mother). how would u no if its a fertile egg? n what are the normal laying habits? every other day till a full clutch

Hiya Huz , laying habits depend a lot on which breed they are , are they hybrids ? , if so some hybrids will lay 5-6 eggs a week others it can be 1 every second day . There is no way of telling if a egg is fertile , you would have to incubate it and candle it at after about 7 days of incubation .
