TEXT :(Hi everyone,
I am new (another one!!) to all this and hope you can give me some advice.
I have had a chicken house given me which will hold between 3./4 hens. What are the best layers. What feed will I need to get started, how often should i feed them? what type of shavings should i get?
so many questions so little time
Hope there is someone out there who can help.
Oh, and I am looking for 3/4 hens in the Powys/shropshire border. I live in a little place called Four Crosses which is 18 miles from Shrewsbury and 8 miles either way from Welshpool and Oswestry.

hi duckmad again in answer to your questions you can either feed them layers pellets or corn, layers pellets will give you the best egg production as it is made to cover all the chickens needs but corn is cheaper but it does tend to lay down fat in the birds which can be bad for their health. you can either feed them ad lib or just in a morning with a top up in the evening, it depends on how much time you want to spend with them as far as bedding goes it depends on what you can get, hay or straw in the nest box is great and shavings on the floor works best. hope this helps duckmad
