hi ash thanks for the lovely photos they look lovely. they are not however abacot rangers. the drake has the wrong markings and the duck is too brown. both richard and i have both had a look at the photos and they look like a very good pair of welsh harlequins. their is very little difference in the drakes at this stage except for the beak colour which is more harlequin than ranger. in the ducks the ranger duck has a light body colour with flecking ontop of this almost white colour whereas the harlequin is a browner base. on the plus side if they are harlequins they look like a very good example and the size (about the same as a campbell) is right keep us informed of there progress but i would say that they would not go far wrong in a harlequin class at a show, they look that good. for 9 weeks they are well feathered up so keep up the good work and have fun with them. if you are coming to usk at the end of the month we will have rangers there so you will be able to see the colour difference for yourself although saying that it really is down to the carriage in the males, there is so little difference in the colour hope to see you at usk and hope this helps with your new purchase fiona ( duckmad)

forgot to ask as the photo doesnt show too well. what colour are the ducks legs and webs. if they are the same as the drakes, yes they are harlequins, if they are dark grey they are rangers. they look orange like the drake. good welsh harlequins are hard to come by now, so hang on to them, they are good layers and judging by the size they should come into lay later in the year so you could even have babies this year off them. duckmad

~Hi
Im confussed they seem to have a bluey coloured speculum on both the duck and drake. This would surely rule out welsh harlequins? And the head of the male seems to be going green on the crown?
James
perhaps a closer picture would confirm the breed.

hi callducks yes i looked at the speculum colour as well, and was confused, but the body colour of the duck is definitely brown and not the white colour it should be. yes a closer picture may help or possibly a picture in a couple of weeks time whent he colouring is better duckmad

hi ash judging by the pic i would still say the are harlequin as the ducks legs are the same as the drake and not the dark grey of the ranger, the colour of the speculum is still throwing me a bit, could be that they will change colour again slightly before they mature, keep us informed and let us have a pic in a couple of weeks duckmad
