A few weeks ago i was struggling to get any eggs from my crested ducks and now they won't stop laying. I get around 15 eggs aday and i'm running out of room in my incubator. I have 80 currently in the incubator and every single one is fertile although i expect to loose a few due to the double crested gene.
Any one know when the duck laying season ends? Also Have there been any crested duck eggs on ebay only i was thinking about selling the surplus. JayJay

its ok we are the same and are now having about 50eggs a day of the breeding stock. we have no problem with fertility but are still having problems hatching as what works one week wont work the next. i filled the incubators the other week with mixed eggs of no particular breed and we have hatched 70 out of 80. out of the pure breeds set at the same time we have hatched 15 out of 70 which is terrible. oh well better luck next week. i dont know whether there have been any crested eggs on e bay but they should sell well. you can always put a buy now price on them. why not try a few through your local market. we had good money for saxony and silver appleyard last week but poor money for khaki campbells and rouen. duckmad

hi madcat well you were right, things turned themselves around on wednesday, we collected our order at hereford, ( we had stock ordered to collect from hereford as its a good meeting point) it turned out to be 40 brown laying pullets and 24 white laying pullets, so we are now overrun with chickens, and eggs. we then swopped 7and a half dozen duck eating eggs for 8 marran chicks just starting to feather. then we went to the market. bad idea the truck was already full, ohh well a look wont hurt. we had 2 more poultry crates, badly needed, and 15 goslings, wow are they cute, they must only be young as they are quite small but dead cute, they are large white x, but i dont know with what, they have grey patches on their backs and some on there heads. there were also 15 very sad looking khakis in the cages and they were just feathering and looking wet and cold so home they came and turned out to be all female except one. so numbers are on the climb again. we are well stocked fort he next few weeks and the first babies of the year are feathering up nicely nad off heat and drinking and eating like trains,, we will be overrun with chicken eggs for now. well thats filled you in on the news from down here, hope your well and great news about your latest hatch madcat talk to you all soon duckmad
