I would like to breed from my khaki campbell ducks but hear they are very bad sitters. Is this right? Should I forget it unless I have an incubator or broody hen?

hi lucy. They arent the best of sitters as they are a bit scattered brained and may come off the nest and forget to come back. You could always try a bantam chicken, they go broody and make good mothers or invest in a cheap incubator. If someone is local to you they may have space for a few eggs so you can give it a try. Dont forget you will get half and half out so be aware that you will have to be fairly sure as there will be unwanted drakes to dispose of. You could always buy in day or week olds and then someone else has had the hassle of hatching and you can buy in sexed at that age and wont get landed with a load of drakes. Dont buy from a market unless they say on the box all female as buying in as hatched A/H will probably be mostly male, its the way things work ( sods Law) Hope this helps fiona
